In 1992, to suit the MCI Norms, the Assistant  Surgeon Post of GMKMC Hospital was redesignated as Tutor/Assistant  Professor of the concerned Department. Assistant Surgeon with Mch( Urology ) qualification 2 posts were redesignated as Tutor/ Assistant Professor of Urology and Department of urology was organised under the control of Professor &  Head , Department of General Surgery.

As per G.O 69 dated 8/3/10 ( under PMSSY Scheme ) following posts were created .
Professor / Associate Professor    - 2
Assistant professor                          -2
Senior Resident / Assistant Professor  -2

ACADEMIC  ACTIVITIES
  • Department of Urology is an Higher Speciality / Superspeciality Department
  • MBBS Students – Theory class – Jan, Feb , March  Every Monday 3-4 pm – Urology topics are covered.
  • MS. PG Students – During their second year of training, they are given training in Urology for one month as per MCI/ University guidelines.
  • B.Sc Nursing Students  - posted to Urology wards for one month & Urology lectures  5 hours/month/year
  • Diploma in Nursing Students – II Year Nursing Students  10 hours Lecture Class/ Year
  • MNA – Basic Urology training given for a month
 
    SERVICES OFFERED
  • All  Faculty members of Urology Department TWO professors, Five Mch qualified Assistant professors , work as a SINGLE UNIT. ( govt guidance- to form two units)
  • At present OP Days -  Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday  OP TIMINGS 10AM TO 12NOON
  • Inpatients are admitted through Urology OPD on MON, WED and Saturday. On other days  patients with urological problems are admitted in General surgical Unit and then transferred to Urology IP ward
  • Average OPD Statistics   680 cases/ month.
  • Average IP Statistics  72 cases / month
  • Operation Theatre days – (2 days)  tuesday and friday
  • Types of Surgeries performed
  1. All open surgical  procedures for urological ailments.
  2. Modern Endourological Procedures like internal urethrotomy , fulguration bleeding  from tumour Bladder, TURP, TURBT, Vesicolithotripsy , DJ Stenting of Ureters, URSL for Ureteric Stones.
  3. Almost all surgical procedures mentioned above comes under TNCMSHIS.(TAMILNADUCHIEFMINISTER’COMPREHENSIVE HEALTH INSURANCE SCHEME)
  •   Emergency Urological Services ( 24 x 7)  offered by call duty Urologist.
